The captain of Bangladesh warned India before going down to the Champions Trophy, what did he say?
As the ICC Champions Trophy 2025
approaches, Bangladesh's captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, has issued a bold
statement regarding his team's ambitions. Speaking ahead of the tournament,
Shanto declared, "We are going to the Champions Trophy to become champions.
All eight teams deserve to be champions in this tournament. They are all
quality teams. I believe our team has the ability."
Bangladesh is set to commence their
campaign against India on February 20 in Dubai. Despite a challenging run in
One Day Internationals recently, Shanto remains optimistic about his squad's
potential. He emphasized the team's balanced composition, highlighting
improvements in both pace and spin bowling departments. "Not too long ago,
we didn't have quality pace bowlers, but now we have a strong pace bowling
unit. We didn't have wrist spinners before, but now we do. Overall, we have a
balanced team," Shanto noted.
The captain's confidence serves as a
clear message to competitors, including India, that Bangladesh is prepared to
challenge for the title. Shanto's leadership and the team's enhanced
capabilities set the stage for an exciting tournament ahead.
As the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 approaches,
Bangladesh's cricket team is making strategic moves to bolster their campaign.
Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto has expressed strong confidence in the team's
potential, stating, "We are going to the Champions Trophy to become
champions. All eight teams deserve to be champions in this tournament. They are
all quality teams. I believe our team has the ability."
In a significant leadership
decision, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has appointed all-rounder Mehidy Hasan
Miraz as the vice-captain for the tournament. Mehidy, 27, brings experience
from 103 ODIs and recently captained the team during their West Indies tour in
the absence of Shanto due to injury.
The team's composition reflects a
blend of seasoned players and emerging talents. Notably, veteran all-rounder
Shakib Al Hasan and wicketkeeper-batsman Litton Das have been omitted from the
squad. Shakib remains suspended from bowling after failing a reassessment of
his action, while Litton's exclusion is attributed to a series of low scores in
recent ODIs.
Bangladesh is placed in Group A alongside
India, Pakistan, and New Zealand. They will commence their campaign against
India on February 20 in Dubai, followed by matches against New Zealand on
February 24 and hosts Pakistan on February 27, both in Rawalpindi.
As the tournament unfolds, cricket
enthusiasts anticipate compelling performances from Bangladesh, especially
under the renewed leadership structure and the captain's optimistic outlook.
